Toninho do Carmo It a universe of delicacy, nuance, of emotion, that we discover when we hear the love duet between Toninho, luthier, composer and instrumentalist, and his guitar. Toninho do Carmo was born in Honório Bicalho, Minas Gerais, Brazil. At the age of five, due to an accident , Toninho had to stay in bed for six months, and his friend Francisco offered him a cavaquinho. He started playing brazilian guitar, and did its debut with Celio Balona at Brazil popular dance parties. Toninho played with Maysa, Dorival Caymmi, Emílio Santiago, Elza Soares, Alcyone, Lucio Alves, Cauby Peixoto, Os Irmãos Borges, Tino Gomez ,Junia Horta and many others. Toninho do Carmo arrives in France in 1984 with the Celio Balona Group, for a concert at France-Brazil Festival, in Arena CIMIE . Arrived to Nice, he finds the town very pleasant, and decides to live and work there. In France he played with Nazaré Pereira, Lualva Braz, Betina, Katia Werneck, Ana Guanabara, Marcia Maria and many others. Also with John Mark Jaffe, Robert Perci, Frank Sitbon, Mark Berteaud, Raul de Souza, Cacau, Jean-Loup Longnon, and recorded an album with Luiz Antonio 'The Star', and Monica Passos. Participa no Festival de Montreux em 1987 e em 1994 com o Grupo Cruzeiro Do Sul. Em 1996 conheceu Georges Moustaki juntou-se ao seu grupo. Com eles toca em Espanha, Alemanha, Japão, Portugal, Canadá e Bélgica. Participa nos Festivais de Montreux, Nice, Lyon, Canadá. Actua no Olympia , Palau da musica, Philharmonie Berlim, Munique e Hamburgo. Toca na France 2, Michel Drucker, França Music, Europa 1, numa homenagem a Henry Salvator, na RTL, França Inter e muitos outros. Participates at the Montreux Festival in 1987 and 1994 with Grupo Cruzeiro Do Sul. In 1996 he met Georges Moustaki and joined his group. With them he plays in Spain, Germany, Japan, Portugal, Canada and Belgium. Participates in several festivals: in Montreaux, Nice, Lyon, and Canada. Performs in Olympia , Palau of music, Philharmonie Berlin, Munich and Hamburg. Also on France 2, Michel Drucker, France Music, Europe 1, in a tribute to Henry Salvator, on RTL, France Inter and many others. In 2010 he formed his own group, Toninho’s Band. In 2011, starts a tour in Germany with Papa Wemba, performs in TV5 , and France24 . In 2014 he composed and recorded his first solo album, Primavera, released by Défis. Toninho performs in the cabaret Les Trois Maillets since 1993 and is also musical director and arranger. Recorded three discs for Harmonia Mundi with the singer Maria Teresa. Musical director and arranger In 1998 he starts working with Théâtre de l’Opprimé. He made the musical direction of several plays: Isabel Ribeiro’s and Rui Frati: Beco da garrafas (1998), Dans l’Ombre (2001/7), L’état de nos droits (2002), Traversée (2003/6), Emplacement Réservé (2005), Parfums de Plaisir et Mort (2008/9), La Terre (2010), Nelson de Rio (2012), Vinicius (2013), Remarquables Utopias (2014), presented in Paris, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Teerão, Milão, Pisa, Génova, Modena, Alba Julia ... He is also musical programmer of Festival Migrations.
